Rekha – Umrao Jaan (1981) Traffickers abduct a girl to exact revenge against her father. She is purchased by a madam and given the name Umrao Jaan. With her penchant for writing poetry and abilities to sing and dance, a patron's poetry loving son named Sultaan falls in love with her. The dance numbers are presented in context of Umrao's performances as we follow her quest to maintain the heart of Sultaan and her attempts to live away from the brothel as an independent artist.
