Movies × Paintings on Instagram: “On 22nd of January 1892, Munch wrote in his diary “I was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set. Suddenly the sky turned as red as blood. My friends walked on. I stood there quaking with angst and I felt as though a vast endless scream passed through nature.” What is debatable is whether those screams were real or psychological. The painting focuses on the inner psychology of man in relation to nature which was the central theme of Qala. No other painting would have been appropriate. In one particular scene, pointing towards her head she says, “Shor hai, yahan”. Obviously the ‘shor’ was psychological. Even though the movie still might seem inappropriate for the painting, I stuck with it because this was the turning point in the Qala’s life. This particular incident gave her the prominence she so desperately wanted. She was happy for once it seemed. But it was accompanied by the ‘scream’. PS. Barely visible on the painting is a pencil inscription stating “Could only have been painted by a madman.” It was Munch himself. .
