Mayim Bialik who portrays Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory, was recently honoured by the Anti Defamation League with its Deborah Award. Nervously accepting the award named for the biblical prophet at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, Bialik was recognized as one of three extraordinary women for her philanthropic and civic contributions. When not on set, Bialik has been working with the UCLA Hillel and the Jewish Free Loan Society, as well as teaching science to children who, like her own two sons, 3 and 6 are home schooled. She also writes for the blog Kveller.com all while balancing an observant Jewish life and keeping a kosher home. Keynote speech @ TribeFest 2011 “I don’t think anything I do in my life is about me”, the 36-year-old said in her humbled acceptance speech. “It’s about what G-d has put in my path. That’s really what has driven me.” Bialik told the Hollywood Reporter, that she has a Torah study group quietly meet with her on Friday nights in between taping scenes for the show. In addition to her roles on Blossom and The Big Bang Theory, Bialik who has a PhD in neuroscience, has also appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Fat Actress and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
